Abstract
1,238,167. Making structural members. W. DICKINSON. 25 March, 1970 [25 March, 1969], No. 15628/69. Heading B5A. Apparatus for manufacturing structural members comprises an elongated mould, means for feeding a settable material, such as concrete, into the mould, a core 4, 4a positioned in the mould, and means for drawing the core through the settable material to form a void in the member being produced, characterized in that the core has a ploughshare-like head member 8. The head comprises a leading edge 8a which may curve upwards and an upwardly projecting central portion having a sharp upper edge 8b curving convexly upwards and rearwards from the leading edge 8a, and concave side walls (8c and 8d). An upper tongue 8e of width less than the width of the core, is also provided on the head member 8. The head may be integral with the core or detachable or the core may be in two parts 4, 4a separated by a damper or resilient member. The part of the core carrying the head may be vibrated.
