Abstract

[Also in Division A4] A mechanism for regulating the slope of the back of a seat comprises a plate 1, adapted to be secured to the seat, a plate 2, adapted to be secured to the back, and epicyclic gearing connecting the plates 1, 2 and operated by a control knob 15 which is rotatably mounted in an aperture 10 and carries an eccentric shaft 12 on which a stepped planet gear 20, 21 is rotatably mounted. The planet gear has teeth 20a meshing an internally toothed annulus 3 secured to plate 1 and teeth 21a meshing teeth 4a on an annulus 4 secured to plate 2. In a modification, plate 2 carries an externally toothed member 22 which meshes a rack 23. The knob 15 may be provided with a brake in the form of a spring-urged plunger or helical spring.
