A clamp for mounting a device having a base plate 30 with holes, on an apertured support member 10, comprises a coupling bracket 50, with a web, and feet 53 adapted for passing through apertures 11 in the support member and engaging the underside thereof, a movable plate 60 having a threaded hole therein, said plate being mounted within said coupling bracket with limited mobility in a direction parallel to the web of said coupling bracket, a locking bracket 40 having side parts disposed outside the side parts of said coupling bracket, said coupling and locking brackets having apertures in their webs, and a screw 90 adapted for passing through a hole of the base plate of the device, and passing, through said apertures in the webs of the coupling and locking brackets, and screwed in said threaded hole of the movable plate, in such manner that the position of said screw can be altered within certain limits with respect to said coupling bracket, and that tightening of said screw produces gripping of the support member between the feet of the coupling bracket and the side parts of the locking bracket. In the construction shown the plate 60 is mounted in the coupling bracket 50 by means of a holder plate 70, the plate 70 having flanges 71 which are engaged by the ends of the plate 60 so that it can slide in the channel defined by the flanges and the plate 70 also having wings 72 which enter apertures 54 in the side parts of the bracket 50, the lengths of the wings compared with the lengths of the apertures being such that the wings can move along the apertures; thus the movement of the plate 70 allows the plate 60 to move towards the open sides of the bracket 50 whereas the freedom to slide between the flanges of the plate 70 permits the plate 60 to move in the direction of the side parts of the bracket 50 so that it can take up any desired position within limits. The substantially square aperture 51 in the web of the bracket 50 permitting such movement of the screw 90. To enable the shank of the screw to pass through the plate 70, the plate is provided with an elongated hole 75. The arrangement permits the screw to pass through the aperture in the base plate 30 while still enabling the feet 53 to enter the apertures in the support member 10. The apertures 11 in the support member are square and the bracket 50 is provided with four feet, two at the end of each side part. The clamping bracket 40 has grooves 44 near the ends of its side parts which receive the end portions of a locking plate 80 which pass through open ended slots 56 in the side parts of the bracket 50 to attach the bracket 40 to the bracket 50. The locking plate has lugs 82 which can enter two of the apertures in the support member through which the feet 53 have already been passed to prevent removal of the feet from the apertures. In a modified construction the plate 70 is omitted and instead the plate 60 slides in grooves in the side parts of the bracket 50; with this arrangement the plate 60 can only move relative to the open sides of the bracket 50. To limit the extent of movement of the plate 60 the bracket 40 has two additional side parts disposed adjacent the open sides of the bracket 50. The locking plate 80 is omitted and instead the bracket 40 has lugs which can enter two of the apertures in the support member through which the feet 53 have already passed and the bracket 50 is retained in position on the bracket 40 by means of detents which are engageable with apertures in the legs of the bracket 50.
