Abstract
1,237,475. Silver halide photographic material supports. FUJI PHOTO FILM CO. Ltd. July 14, 1969 [July 25, 1968], No.35368/69. Heading G2C. A process for the production of light-sensitive silver halide material or a silver halide diffusion transfer method receiving sheet comprises swelling the surface of a plastics film with a liquid swelling agent, treating the surface of the film thus swelled with a non-swelling liquid miscible with said liquid swelling agent to coagulate the swelled portion of the surface, and applying thereto a light-sensitive silver halide emulsion layer or an emulsion layer containing development nuclei for use in a silver halide diffusion transfer method. Many plastics films and liquid swelling agents are listed. The non-swelling liquid may be an alcohol, an aqueous alcohol, an ether, a hydrocarbon or hexanone or a mixture of two or more thereof. The non- swelling may contain water in an amount sufficiently small that phase separation of the liquid does not occur, in order to improve adhesion of the layer to the support. A layer containing a pigment or a dye may be applied to the coagulated layer before said emulsion layer is applied thereto. The non-swelling liquid extracts the swelling liquid from the material leaving inumerous fine pores, thereby increasing the scattering of light at the surface and making the film surface opaque and simultaneously forming a matted or blushed surface by shrinkage upon coagulation. A material like paper in appearance and surface properties is obtained.
