Abstract
1,237,348. Furnace muffle; blow-moulding. BTU ENG. CORP. 3 June, 1970 [4 June, 1969], No. 26698/70. Heading B5A. [Also in Divisions F3-F4] A fused silica muffle (shown in outline at 36) is produced by expanding a soft hollow tube 34 against the surfaces of a two part cast iron mould 30, by blowing. The tube is formed by inserting a graphite painted heater rod in a barrel of sand, and after heating withdrawing the rod and the tube of fused plastic sand formed round it, from the barrel. The heater rod is then withdrawn from the thus formed tube.
