Abstract

1,236,640. Joining strips; welding by fusion; shearing. MESSER GRIESHEIM G.m.b.H. 18 July, 1968 [19 July, 1967], No. 34363/68. [Also in Divisions B3A, B3R and B3W] The subject matter of this Specification is substantially the same as that described in Specification 1,236,639 but the claims relate to the sheet clamping device comprising at least one pair of clamp jaws (32, 33) (Fig. 4, not shown), at least one clamp jaw (32) of each pair having a plurality of jaw parts (53) disposed over the width of the clamp jaw (32), an intermediate elastic layer (54) e.g. rubber being disposed between each jaw part (53) and the adjacent part of the jaw (32) so that the individual jaw parts (53) have limited movability in relation to one another to compensate for thickness variations within the sheet. The jaw parts (53) are fastened on to the jaw (32) by nuts and bolts and are covered by a copper layer (61). Each bottom clamp jaw (33) is moved relative to the top clamp jaw (32), having a plastics layer (47), by piston and cylinder assemblies (40, 43) mounted on top of the jaw (32). The jaws (32, 33) are movable upwardly, longitudinally and transversely.
