Type-actions using auxiliary power.-A typelever 2 is swung to effect impression by a spring 14 through a pair of parallel links 12, 13, a striker bar 11 and a coupler 5, the power in the spring derived from a toggle mechanism 15, 16, 19 and a continuously rotating cam 20 which cocks the mechanism after the chosen coupler 5 has been actuated. The coupler 5 is actuated by a pawl 22 which releases a cam pawl 21, this in turn releases the coupler from a support 9 and recess 10, and the spring 14 moves the coupler 5 to the left and the type-lever 2 towards the platen. Impression is effected by momentum. A shift bar 24 is also actuated and this operates a latch mechanism, Fig. 2, (not shown), so. that the cam 20 is effective to operate the toggle mechanism and recock the spring 14. In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), the striker comprises a two-armed bridge (38) and the cocking of the toggle levers 15, 16 is dependent upon the release of a bell-crank lever (40), one arm of which comprises an armature (42) of an electromagnet 43. The magnet (43) is released only when both a contact (46) is opened by a character selection action and a contact (45) is opened by the cam 20.
