Abstract

1,236,570. Vehicle washing apparatus. FLEXY BRUSHES Ltd. 26 Nov., 1968 [12 Dec., 1967], No. 56502/67. Heading B7J. [Also in Division A4] Surface cleaning apparatus for, e.g. vehicle bodies, paintwork, walls, windows, agricultural and dairy utensils, comprises a hand-wielded brush with a hollow rubber or plastics stock 5 through which liquid can be directed to the bristles 7, and has a flexible plastics tube 17, 17 which connects an inlet duct 9 of the stock to an intake member 18 on the bottom of a bucket 19 of liquid and which is provided intermediate its ends with a manually compressible rubber bulb 20 arranged between non-return valves 22, 23 so that alternate deformation and relization of the bulb causes intermittent delivery of liquid to the brush. The intake member is provided with a gauze filter 28 and maintains contact with the bottom of the bucket either by its own weight or by the use of a wire hook or split ring on the member 18 or tube 17 for engagement with the bucket handle. In one embodiment each non-return valve comprises a capture poppet member whose head co-operates with a seating at one end of a housing inserted in one of the necks of the bulb 20, Fig. 2 (not shown). Alternatively, Fig. 3 (not shown), a length of plastics tubing with a normally closed fishtail portion is inserted into the end of the appropriate tube section 17 before the latter is forced into the neck of the bulb 20.
