Abstract

1,236,464. Weft pattern mechanism. SULZER BROS. Ltd. 14 June, 1968 [22 June, 1967], No. 28387/68. Heading D1E. Mechanism as described in Specification 953,806 for selecting one of four wefts for insertion by a gripper shuttle consists of a punched paper pattern 146 separate from the shedding pattern. The holes are in rows containing a multiple of the number of sealing needles 143 (in the case shown there are eight holes for two needles). The needles are shogged four times to the right to seal all the holes in the same row, then the paper band is advanced to the next row, which is scanned from right to left. The holes are staggered so that the first shogging step in each direction is half the amount of the others. A grooved cam 176 running at one-eighth the speed of the loom shogs the needles by means of a tooth sector 182 and rack 183. The paper band may be shogged instead of the needles.
