Abstract

1,236,163. Scintillation camera. NUCLEARCHICAGO CORP. March 28, 1969 [April 1, 1968], No.16395/69. Heading G1A. [Also in Divisions C4, and H3-H5] The useful area of a wafer 34 of scintillation material is increased by the use of a radiation collimator 32<SP>1</SP> which provides shielding 35<SP>1</SP>, 37<SP>1</SP> for the edge regions 38, 40 of the wafer 34 by providing radiation transmitting passages only in a central zone. In this way, edge effects such as reflection of photons, resulting from the scintillation process, from the edges of the scintillator wafer towards the central of a detector located behind the wafer, are diminished. The scintillatorcollimator arrangement is applicable for use in a scintillation camera, when an array of photomultipliers, a scanning tube, or a spark chamber detector having a scintillator covering its photocathode view the light field produced by the scintillator, and the output is displayed on a C.R.T. Alternatively, a photographic film can be placed behind the scintillator. Examples of typical scintillator materials are given.
