Abstract
1,235,722. Retractive switches. K. MAECKER. 5 Sept., 1968 [15 Sept., 1967], No. 42340/68. Heading H1N. In a snap-action switch with a magnet to hold the contacts until a snap-spring 10 is sufficiently strained the permanent magnet 1 and its polepieces 2, 3 form a tube surrounding a sleeve 6 containing armature rings 5, the sleeve 6 when actuated moving along the tube with the stops 7, 8 for the sleeve 6 located outside the magnet system. As shown, snapspring 10 presses against a movable stop ring 11 bearing against sleeve 6, a rebound spring 13 bears against a movable stop ring 14 also bearing against sleeve 6, and a retracting spring 16 bears against a ring 18 attached to plunger 9. Sleeve 6 carries moving contacts 20, 21 co-operating with fixed contacts 23, 24. Plunger 9 is moved to the right by cams or levers (not shown) on a machine, but sleeve 6 is held in the position shown by the magnetic force. As plunger 9 moves to the right, snapspring 10 is strained until the combined force of spring 10 and contact spring 22 is sufficient to overcome the magnetic force, and the sleeve 6 is snapped to the right against stop 8. When the external operating force is removed, the sleeve 6 is snapped back again by retracting spring 16, straining spring 13 until the magnetic force is overcome. Stops 7, 8 are adjustable. To adjust the magnetic force, a shunt 28 can be screwed in or out to vary airgap 29. In a second embodiment, Fig. 4 (not shown), one fixed and moving contact are on the left-hand side of the magnet system, each moving contact being provided with a contact spring.
