Abstract

1,235,632. Supported palladium catalysts. KNAPSACK A.G. 21 Oct., 1969 [22 Oct., 1968], No. 51562/69. Heading B1E. [Also in Division C2] Catalysts consisting of metallic palladium and a carrier of which at least 80% of the carrier particles have a diameter between 0.1 and 1.5 mm are used for the preparation of unsaturated esters of carboxylic acids by reacting an olefine or diolefine with an aliphatic or aromatic carboxylic acid and molecular oxygen. The carrier is preferably silicic acid, in a fluidised bed, and further activators may be added comprising alkali metal or alkaline earth metal carboxylates, hydroxides or carbonates, the metals gold, copper, zinc, cadmium, tin, lead, manganese chromium, molybdenum, tungsten, uranium, iron, cobalt, nickel, niobium, vanadium or tantalum. In examples a catalyst is formed from silicic acid, PdCl 4 and HAnCl 4 which is dried in nitrogen and reduced with aqueous alkaline hydrazine.
