Abstract

1,235,626. Light-sensitive silver halide colour photographic emulsion. KONISHIROKU PHOTO INDUSTRY CO. Ltd. Feb. 10, 1969 [Feb. 9, 1968], No.7162/69. Heading G2C. A silver halide colour photographic emulsion contains a colour former of the general formula (I):- in which R 1 represents an alkyl, acylamino or sulphonamido group; each of which may be substituted or unsubstituted; each of X 1 , X 2 and X 3 , which may be the same or different, represents a hydrogen or a halogen atom, or a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl group, a sulphonamido group, a substituted or unsubstituted sulphanyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl carbonyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted acylamino group, or an alkoxy or aryloxy group; together with one or more compounds of the general formulae (II): A I B-Ch-X 4 in which each of A and B, which may be the same or different, represents a group of the formula -COR 2 , -COOR 2 ', -CONHR 2 ", or CN; each of R 2 , R 2 ', R 2 " and X 4 , which may be the same or different, represents an allyl, alkyl, aryl, cycloalkyl or aralkyl group; each of which may be substituted or unsubstituted; and in which X 5 represents an allyl, alkyl, aryl, cycloalkyl, or aralkyl group, each of which may be substituted or unsubstituted; and F represents a radical which forms, together with the COCH- radical to which it is attached, a pyoazolone ring which may be substituted. Many examples of the three types of compound defined above are disclosed. The emulsion, according to the present invention, containing a colour former of the general formula (I) and one or more of the compounds of the general formulae (II) and (III), which react with an oxidation product of a p-phenylenediamine derivative to form a colourless coupling product, does not suffer from any change of spectral absorption characteristic of the developed dyes, and the speed and gamma values are extremely increased. In addition only a small amount of the colour former is required and the viscosity of the emulsion is decreased with the consequence that the emulsion can be coated easily on a support. The emulsion is safe from fogging, the thickness of the emulsion layer is reduced and the image is sharp. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 861, 138.
