Abstract

1,235,508. Helicopter rotor blades. MESSERSCHMITT - BOLKOW - BLOHM G.m.b.H. 11 Sept., 1968 [12 Sept., 1967], No. 43274/68. Heading B7W. In order that the bending forces arising from its lag-lead movement be less than the centrifugal forces acting along its length, a fibre reinforced plastics rotor blade may be provided with two fibre reinforced plastics root end loops 4, 5 lying side-by-side and enclosed by a metal fitting comprising two halves 7, 8. Bolts may pass through the loops lined with bushes 9 to connect the blade to a rotor hub. In a further embodiment which provides for a reduction in forces arising from lag-lead and flapping movement, a blade has a pair of double loops in which one pair is superimposed above the other. In another embodiment, a blade is provided with one loop lying in the lag-lead plane and one loop lying in the flapping plane.
