Abstract

1,235,486. Variable speed control. DAVID BROWN GEAR INDUSTRIES Ltd. 21 April, 1969 [19 April, 1968], No. 18646/68. Heading F2D. A power transmission comprises forward and reverse sleeve members 14, 16 each housing a freewheel clutch cage unit 24 (e.g. of a sprag clutch) and a hub 22 axially slidable (e.g. in splines 21) non-rotatably along a shaft member 11 (which may be common to both members 14 and 16) to selectively couple the members 14, 16 to the member(s) 11, either both the sleeve members, or the or both shaft members (each) being power-driven in one direction only and (each) having means (e.g. a back turn brake 19) to angularly move the member back. Power input may be from a single prime mover via member 11 or shaft 12, from two prime movers driving two contra-rotating members 11 with meshing gears or via shaft 12.
