Abstract

1,170,551. Hydro-mechanical drive transmissions. SCHWERMASCHINENBAU S.M. KIROW VEB. 30 June, 1967, No. 30181/67. Headings F2D and F2C. Transmission for a self-propelled crane includes a hydrostatic drive between an engine 1 and a change-speed gear 4, the hydrostatic drive including a pump 17 connected to a motor 21 by a pressure line (19), (Fig. 2, not shown) the pressure in which is limited by a safety valve (20) to limit the output torque of motor 21, so that the various crane drives can be used while the crane is moving at crawling speed without overloading the gear 4 from which crane and propulsion drives are derived. Pump 17 and motor 21, which may be of constant or variable capacities, respectively draw fluid from and return fluid to a sump. The engine drives a shaft 13 via a main clutch 2, a double dog clutch 14 on the shaft 13 having a central neutral position, a right-hand position in which it clutches a pinion 15 meshing an input gear 18 of the pump 17 to the shaft 13, and a left-hand position in which shaft 13 is clutched to a hollow shaft 16 splined to the input shaft 26 of gear-box 4 to by-pass the hydrostatic drive. The output gear 22 of motor 21 meshes a gear 23 mounted on the shaft 16 by a one-way clutch 24. In modifications, the clutch 14 may be a simple direct drive clutch, pinion 15 being permanently secured on shaft 13, or the direct drive may be omitted, so that hydrostatic drive is always used. Engine 1, hydrostatic drive 5, and change-speed gear 4 are mounted on a sub-frame 11 resiliently mounted as at 10 on a main crane frame 9.
