Abstract
1,235,191. Aerials. AIRTECH Ltd. 11 Feb., 1969 [19 Feb., 1968], No. 7925/68. Heading H4A. In a notch, or open-ended slot aerial 10, Fig. 1, a plate 13 extends perpendicularly from a base 11, strengthening ribs (e.g. 15) are provided on each side, and a parallel-sided slot 18 extends from the front end of said plate almost to said ribs. Pairs of opposed bosses 23, 24 and 25, 26 are provided near the open and the closed ends of the slot 18, respectively. A socket fitting on the underside of the base 10 comprises a fixing plate 33 and a threaded portion 34, and it is connected to the upper part of the slot 18 by a cable 32 which passes through the bosses 25, 26. The cable 32 is surrounded by a tubular feed insulator 35 which is itself surrounded by an upper feed insulator 36 and a lower feed insulator 37. The insulator 36 is secured to the faces of the slot by means of epoxy resin. At the open end of the slot 18 an insulating tube 28, which is coaxial with the bosses 23, 24, extends across the said slot and is likewise secured to its faces by means of epoxy resin. The tube 28 contains an upper slug 27, which is fixed to the boss 23, and a lower slug 31, which is adjustable for . tuning purposes by means of a threaded portion 30 which engages with a threaded hole 29 in the boss 24. After adjustment, the open end of the hole below the slug 31 is sealed flush. The aerial is stated to be particularly suitable for fixing to road and rail vehicles, where it can withstand rough usage. A closed slot may be used instead of an open slot, the aerial being otherwise as described above. .
