Abstract
1,235,055. Evaporators, film type; removal of water from urea solutions. WHITLOCK MFG., CO. 31 Oct., 1969, No. 53557/69. Addition 1,193,221. Heading B1B. [Also in Division C2] In a process for drying an aqueous solution of urea, as claimed in parent Specification, wherein the solution is passed in film-form down the interior surface of vertically-disposed heated tubes and then flows downwardly through packing while a stream of heated inert gas, e.g. air, is passed upwardly through the packing and the tubes, the temperature range for heating the stream of inert gas is extended from 310‹ to 350‹F., and the temperature range to which the urea solution is heated is extended below 280‹ to 260‹F. In an example, a solution of urea containing 31% water is dried by passing it through tubes heated by steam at 295.6‹F., and introducing air at 340‹F into the apparatus. The urea discharged from the apparatus has a temperature of 279‹F and contains 0.29% water.
