Abstract

1,234,841. Thermal switches. N. C. JOSEPH Ltd. 16 July, 1969 [30 July, 1968], No. 36241/68. Heading H1N. [Also in Divisions A4 and H5] In an electrically-heated vessel such as a kettle, a thermostat 16, Fig. 1, is mounted externally of the vessel on the shell part covering the gas or vapour region and comprises a bimetallic disc 19, Fig. 2, in thermally conductive relationship with the shell whereby it is sensitive to the gas or vapour temperature but out of contact with the gas or vapour. The switch 16 is mounted within a hollow portion of the vessel handle 18 and comprises a casing end part 39 having a flexible skirt 40 of berylliumcopper which is adjustably pressed against the shell of the vessel by means of a screw 32, accessible by a screw-driver inserted through a hole 36 (not shown) in the wall 30 of the handle 18. The body of the switch 16 comprises a heat-insulating block 26 engaged by the screw 32 and guided in the handle 18 between studs 27 bolted at 28, 29 to the handle wall 30. A two-way manual switch 20 is provided for shorting out the thermal switch when required. A pair of indicating lamps 21 (22) on the handle indicate respectively when the heater is in circuit and if the switch 20 is switched to the position shorting out the thermal switch 16. An auxiliary thermostat 17 is also provided near the heater 15 to operate when the kettle boils dry. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,018,818.
