A collapsible pipe-stand comprises, in one embodiment, a horse-shoe shaped member 4, Fig. 1, the open end of which is pivoted at 3 to a base plate 2 and formed with a pair of projections 5 to support the pipe bowl. A projection 6 supports the pipe stem. Another embodiment has a stirrupshaped member to cradle the pipe and a forked prop pivoted by a leather strap to that part of the stirrup that supports the pipe stem. A further embodiment consists of a plate formed with an elongated opening to receive the pipe and shaped externally to fit within a horse-shoe shaped plate when the stand is collapsed. A pivotal connection between the plates is positioned such that the plates form a shallow X, as seen in elevation, when the stand is extended for use. Figs. 7, 9 show another construction comprising two shaped rods 16, 17 with pivotal joints 18 at their ends. A further embodiment consists of a base plate 19, Fig. 10, with hinged end plates 21, 22 shaped to support the pipe. This arrangement may be modified by inversion, the two end plates extending downwardly and the plate 19 having a pear-shaped opening to receive the pipe. Fig. 16 shows another construction in which a pair of U-shaped members 33, 34 are pivoted at 31, 32 to a plate 30. A variation of this construction has the pivots for the U- shaped members situated near the ends of the plate 30. The embodiment according to Fig. 20 comprises a box-like member 40 slidable within a box-like member 41 which has an opening 45 for the pipe, and a support foot 42 pivotally mounted in the member 40 by a pin 43. Angular movement of the foot is limited by a pin 44 co-acting with the underside of the member 40 or by a pair of such pins entering slots in the member 40. To collapse the stand the foot 42 is swung into the member 40 and the members 40, 41 are telescoped. A stop (not shown) limits withdrawal of member 40 from 41. In all embodiments, those parts that support the pipe may be of metal whilst the foot or base parts may be made of, or covered with, leather &c.
