Abstract

Photographic developing apparatus 10 comprises a first resilient roller 12; a second rigid roller 14, formed of a core having wire wound around its periphery Fig.3 (not shown) or having its surface machined into a series of parallel grooves Fig.4 not shown); a trough 24 full of a developer solution into which the first roller 12 dips; and a metering bar 28 for determining the thickness of the layer of developer solution on the first roll so as to control the quantity thereof deposited on sensitized copy paper W conveyed between the rollers 12, 14. The bar 28 is adjustable to vary the gap between it and the roller 12 and hence to vary the thickness of the layer. Since the surface of roller 14 is ridged, it will only retain a small amount of developer from roller 12 in the absence of a sheet W, and hence back wetting of the next sheet is minimized.
