Abstract

1,233,902. Yeast cartons. DISTILLERS CO. (YEAST) Ltd. 28 Aug., 1968 [31 Aug., 1967], No. 39857/67. Heading B8C. A sealed cardboard carton containing fresh bakers' yeast has at least one coating of plastics material on the walls and ends of the carton, the flaps of the carton being sealed down with adhesive tape, the nature and thickness of the cardboard and coating(s) allowing diffusion of gases arising from the yeast out of the carton but preventing any substantial ingress of atmospheric oxygen. The carton may be coated internally and/or externally and is preferably made from a cardboard blank coated on one or both sides. The cardboard is preferably <SP>1</SP>/ 16 -# inch thick and the coating, which may be polyethylene, is preferably 0À0005-0À001 inch thick. The carton may be shrink-wrapped with plastics film, which may form said coating, and the carton is then internally treated to prevent wetting of the cardboard.
