Abstract

Attachments for screwing; chucks.-Relates to screwing and tapping attachments for lathes, drilling-machines, &c., which attachments may be arranged to be supported and driven independently and used as screwing and tapping machines. Fig. 1 shows an attachment comprising a casing a, which is prevented from rotating by a rod a<3> engaging some fixed part of the machine, and carries bearings for two alined sleeves c, d, the latter of which is screwed to a stem d<5> adapted to engage the machine spindle. These sleeves are geared by bevel wheels so that they rotate in opposite directions. Through them passes a spindle h carrying the tap or dies and provided with a clutch-part which can be engaged with corresponding clutch-parts on the bevel wheels e, f. In a modification, the bevel wheel e is geared so as to rotate more quickly than the wheel f for the rapid withdrawal of the tap or dies. Reversing-gear of other than bevel type may be used, and by providing the casing a with a support and driving the sleeve d by a belt or otherwise an independent machine is formed.
