123,333. Hecht, J. S., and Dowdell, A. T. March 19, 1917. Piston packing. - Split packing- rings of cup-leather type for use in internal-combustion engines &c. are formed with a covered joint either by the use of a single ring with recessed and overlapping ends, as shown in Fig. 2, or by nesting two or more ring and securing them together in a position for breaking joint by riveting or spot welding. In an overlap joint, each end may be of half the thickness of the ring, or the ends may differ in thickness. The invention is particularly applicable to the packing described in Specification 123,331, and may be manufactured in accordance with Specifications 8571/15 and 123,328, [Class 83(ii), Metal articles &c.]. Specification 7922/15 also is referred to.
