Abstract

123,256. Alldays & Onions Pneumatic Engineering Co., and Wilson, P. J. June 14, 1918. Power hammers.-In a friction lift drop-hammer, means such as a tappet-operated band-brake tightening and releasing gear is employed to work the trip i continuouely while the operating handle v is kept depressed, and also further means may be provided whereby the trip is caused to give single blows only. The latter means comprises a cam roller 1 which engages a cam face on the trip i during its upward movement, and moves an adjustable support 2 beneath the trip i. At the required moment the support 2 is removed by turning a handle 4, the trip falls, and is immediately raised again by automatic mechanism as follows. The lifting belt h is coupled to a pin p oil the loose crank o. To the further end of the pin p is connected, eccentrically, one end of the brake band n, surrounding the continuously revolving pulley m, and on the near end of the pin p is mounted a brake-operating lever u. To start the hammer, the lever v is depressed, thus raising a rod w the end of which engages a slot in a loose disk x, coupled to another disk x<2> on which is a cam face x<1>. This engages the roller u<1> on the lever u, and actuates the brake band, so that the crank and all its attachments are rotated, and the trip i is raised. The disks x, x<2> are carried round by a friction band y attached to the crank p, until their motion is arrested by an adjustable stop z, on a fixed disk z<2>. The arm u is thus released from the cam x<1>, the brake band n relaxed, and the trip i falls. When the end of the slot in the disk x again engages the rod w, the disks x, x<2> are arrested, and the further movement of the crank o causes the re-engagement of the lever u and cam x<1>, thus raising the trip again.
