Feeding-devices for granular and like materials.-Relates to power-operated loading-apparatus comprising a pivoted shoot or hopper which is swung by power from an horizontal position to an inclined position to discharge the concrete or other materials contained therein. The winding-gear for elevating the shoot or hopper to discharge position comprises a controlled clutch and means for temporarily releasing the clutch when the hopper is in discharge position and for permitting of the re-engagement of the clutch when the hopper has receded for a short distance from the discharge position, for the purpose of giving a shaking movement to the hopper during the discharge. The hopper A is pivoted on a rod B, and the ends of a wire rope D passing through a tubular transverse member C held by lugs C<1> on the hopper are attached to two winding-drums E, E<1> on a shaft F carried by bearings on a fixed frame G. The shaft F carries a drum H of larger diameter than, and conveniently in one with, the drum E', and a rope J is attached at one end to the drum H and at the other end to a drum K forming part of one member L of a clutch L, L<1>, the other member L' being keyed to the power shaft M. The member L is movable along the shaft M under control of the striking-gear lever O operated by a handle N. The lever O is pivoted at U and is moved by the cranked end P of a rocking-shaft Q which is mounted in bearings R and carries an adjustable arm S against which a stud T on the hopper strikes when the hopper has been elevated to discharge position. When the stud T engages the arm S, the cranked end P gives an outward jerk to the lever O against the pressure of the operator's hand on the handle N, thereby permitting of the temporary disengagement of the clutch L, L<1> and allowing the hopper to fall back slightly under the reaction of a spring plunger V before the continued pressure of the operator's hand can restore the clutch to engagement, whereupon the stud T will again contact with the arm S. This movement is repeated so long as the operator presses sufficiently upon the handle N and until the desired quantity of material has been discharged from the hopper A. On releasing the pressure on the handle N, the ropes J, D will unwind and allow the hopper to fall back to the loading position.
