Abstract

1,232,490. Feeding webs. E. B. KRAUSE. 26 Nov., 1968 [27 Nov., 1967], No. 56105/68. Heading B8R. [Also in Divisions G2-G3] Photographic strip film processing apparatus comprises a succession of tanks 26 through which film 20 is fed from a supply reel 22 to a take-up reel 24; at least one pair of shafts 28, 32 in each tank, which shafts carry freely rotatable spools 30, 34 arranged to guide the film 20 in a helical path transversely across the tank; and an auxiliary driven roller 70 mounted beneath and parallel to each upper shaft 28, which roller is arranged to contact and drive the spools 30 on its associated upper shaft upon occurrence of excessive film tension. The upper shafts are spring biased away from the roller shafts 64, excessive film tension pulling them downwards. Selected upper shafts or ends of upper shafts may be locked against this downward movement. The lower shafts alone, or all the shafts 28, 32, 64 may be immersed in the processing liquid. The leftmost tank (Fig. 1) may be used as a drying chamber. The spools have shoulders 114 for handling film of different widths.
