Abstract

519,412. Endless-belt elevators. COLEMAN, A. -May 15, 1939, No. 14521. [Class 78 (i)] A conveyer for carrying sheets of sensitized material through photographic machines comprises two endless strips of wide U - form presenting flat borders between which the sheets are gripped during their travel through the machine, the intermediate part of the strips being set back clear of the sheets and perforated to give free access to the treating liquid. One ribbon passes round a driven roller 12 and rollers 13 and 21 and is pressed by curved blades 19 into contact with the other ribbon which passes round rollers 18, 13. The rollers 18, 21 are mounted in side plates 1 detachably secured to the conveyer head, and the roller 13 is supported in bearings 14 telescopically supported on a cross bar 1b and under the action of a spring 16 whereby the ribbons are tensioned. The driving roll 12 for the strips is mounted on a stationary tubular support 2 and driven by pins engaging notches in a detachable disk or flywheel 24 on a driving shaft 23 common to a number of conveyer heads. The tanks 5 containing the treating material for the sheets are raised up to embrace the conveyer and secured to the head by fastening devices 6, and flexible strips 9 effect the spacing. The tank contents are agitated by stirrers 25 driven from the shaft 13a of the roller 13.
