Abstract

1,231,930. Waveguides. TELEFUNKEN PATENTVERWERTUNGS - G.m.b.H. 13 Aug., 1969 [21 Sept., 1968], No. 40541/69. Heading H1W. A bendable waveguide has a curvilinear, approximately rectangular cross-section, comprising one or more inward bulges forming ridges, the ratio of max. depth to max. width (b/a) being less than 0À5. The distance d is such that propagation of undesired modes is prevented. The waveguide may have (as shown) a rectangular external section, or an external section resembling the internal section (Fig. 2, not shown). In the latter case, the waveguide may be constructed from a seamless metal tube and the walls may be thinner in the vicinity of the bulges than elsewhere whereby flexibility is improved. The inward facing walls of the bulges may be flat. The space between the bulges may be filled with dielectric material 3.
