Abstract
771,353. Waveguide terminations. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. June 4, 1954 [June 5, 1953], No. 15512/53. Class 40 (8). An energy-absorbing termination for a waveguide comprises a block 2 of lossy material, e.g. graphite, having a wedge-shaped transition portion 7. A gradual change from the conductivity of the guide walls to the resistivity of the block is achieved by provision of a slotted tongue 8, Fig. 1, of e.g. graphite on the lower broad face of the guide or by a triangular coating 10, Fig. 2, of highly-conductive material on the sloping face of the transition portion. The axial lengths of the transition portion and of the tongue should be #g/4 or an odd multiple thereof. The height of the block is less than the narrow dimension of the main guide so that it forms with the upper broad face a short guide section which may be terminated by a metal wall 5.
