Abstract

1,231,858. Dry-cleaning apparatus. A. L. M. BRILLET. 25 April, 1968 [3 May, 1967; 23 Nov., 1967], No. 19703/68. Heading D1A. Textile articles are cleaned by first agitating them in a solvent and then subjecting them to a pre-prepared aqueous solution supplied at a predetermined temperature and water content. As shown, cleaning takes place in a horizontal perforated drum 1 to which solvent is supplied from tank 8 through valve 25 and from which it is drained through valve 32 to working solvent tank 6. Pump 15 draws solvent from tank 6 and white solvent tank 5 and feeds it through filter 9 to tank 8. Surplus solvent returns to tank 5 via overflow 23. Solvent may be pumped from tank 6 by. pump 15 to distiller 20 and returned through cooler 27 and separator 28 to tank 5. The acqueous solution is prepared in tank 7 from solvent fed from tank 8 and solvents, soaps and water from containers 33. In operation after the solvent has been drained from drum 1 the solution is drawn from tank 7 by pump 36 and delivered through spray 39 to drum 1 and the solution may be circulated by opening valve 43 to connect drum 1 with tank 7. Tank 7 includes a heater 46, a thermometer 47, a thermostat 48 and an agitator. Finally cleaning is completed by circulating white solvent through drum 1 and then the articles are rinsed. The articles may be dried by means of a fan 50 which removes the vapour laden air from the drum 1 and passes it through a condenser 51 and heater 52 before returning it to the drum 1. A re-cycling arrangement e.g. for applying a finishing composition is provided comprising a blower 54, heater 55 and solution sprayer 56. Alternatively, Fig. 3 (not shown), one outlet may lead to two fans and respective drying and recycling circuits. In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown) two tanks (6a), (6b) for working solvent and dirty rinsing solvent are provided. In the modification illustrated in Fig. 6, (not shown) the drum can be rotated continuously or alternately in opposite directions at various speeds. Steam may be fed to the drum.
