Abstract

1,231,832. Snap-action springs. DIAMOND H CONTROLS Ltd. 11 Nov., 1969 [30 Oct., 1968], No. 51526/68. Heading F2S. [Also in Division H1] A one-piece snap-action blade spring of the form shown in plan and elevation in Figs. 1 and 2 respectively is such that when the point H in Fig. 1 is secured, e.g. by a rivet, to a fixed mounting M as shown in Fig. 5, a force F applied to it beyond the junction portion J causes the spring's portion A to be compressed and its portions B to be tensioned. However, in contradistinction to the usual snap-action blade springs of this form, the construction is such that in the absence of external forces there is no stress in the spring portions. The spring is designed for use in electric switches: the contact C of Fig. 2 tends to move (e.g. against a fixed contact, not shown) in the direction of arrow x in Fig. 5 when a force F is first applied but moves suddenly in the opposite direction z if the force continues to be applied.
