Abstract
1,231,688. Fluid actuation of switches. BENDIX CORP. 20 Aug., 1969 [21 Aug., 1968], No. 41632/69. Heading H1N. A fluid pressure-operated electric switch comprises a mounting member 12 having a bore 14, a supporting body 22, 34, a housing 24, an elastomeric tube 18 clamped between member 12 and body 22, 34, tube 18 having a non-circular cross-section wherein a first lateral dimension is larger than a second lateral dimension which lies perpendicular to the first one thereby establishing a preferred direction of collapse in response to increase in fluid pressure, and a pair of switch contacts 26, 28 spaced apart in the direction of the second lateral dimension. For clarity, contacts 26, 28 are shown closed, but in fact they would be open until tube 18 is compressed. Epoxy potting 34 supports and insulates contacts 26, 28 crimped to leads 30, 32. Mounting member 12 may be of any shape for mating with a connector (not shown) of a fluidic system.
