Abstract
1,231,436. Making pressure vessels. J. MERCIER. 5 July, 1968, No. 32315/68. Headings B3A and B3Q. [Also in Divisions F1 and F2] A press for curling a retaining rim 11 about the end 15 of an aluminium or steel &c. pressure vessel 10 comprises a hollow holder B for the vessel and a curling die 41, the two elements 41a, 41b of which define a cavity having a continuous wall 47, 48 when a head 52 of the inner element 41b bears against the top 53 of the outer element 41a. The elements are lowered together, by pressure on the head 52, to curl the rim until its inner edge 54 engages the end 15, Fig. 3 (not shown). The inner element 41b is then released and further pressure applied to the outer element 41a, Fig. 4, causing the edge 54 to move inwardly between positions X and Y. A sealing ring or the rim 18 of a resilient bladder 19 may be located in a recess 17 on the end 15.
