Abstract
1,231,104. Stream-reformation catalysts. JAPAN GAS-CHEMICAL CO. Ltd. 17 May, 1968 [19 May, 1967; 13 June, 1967; 8 March, 1968], No. 23478/68. Heading B1E. [Also in Division C5] Steam reforming catalysts comprising metallic Ni finely dispersed on cement are made by heating a mixture of a nickel salt with cement under a hydrogen gas stream, thereby simultaneously decomposing and reducing the nickel salt directly to metallic nickel to actuate the catalyst. This is achieved preferably at 400- 700‹C. Alumino cement, Portland cement, magnesia- and silica-type cements are all specified as carriers. 3-40% Ni on cement is preferred. Promoters or co-catalysts of alkali metal salts may be used e.g. NaCl, NaBr, NaF. Example 21 gives a two-catalyst or pre-catalyst account of steam reformation.
