Abstract

1,230,933. Stabilization of vinyl resins. TENNECO CHEMICALS Inc. 10 April, 1969 [26 April, 1968], No. 18549/69. Heading C3P. Non-toxic heat stable resinous compositions comprise 100 parts by weight of a vinyl halide resin and a stabilizer comprising (a) 0À01-1 part by weight of a zinc salt of a C 6-22 aliphatic monocarboxylic acid, (b) 0À01-1 part by weight of a calcium or magnesium salt of a C 6-22 aliphatic monocarboxylic acid, (c) 0À1-3 parts by weight of 2-phenylindole and (d) 0À01-0À5 part by weight of sorbitol, mannitol and trimethylol propane. The composition may also contain 0À01-0À2 part by weight of a trialkyl phenol, 3,3<SP>1 </SP>- thiodipropionic acid and its alkyl esters, 4,4<SP>1 </SP>- thiodibutyric acid and its alkyl esters or mixtures thereof as antioxidants as well as conventional additives such as dioctyl phthalate, dibutyl sebacate, tricresyl phosphate and octyl diphenyl phosphate. Specified vinyl resins include homopolymers of vinyl chloride, vinyl bromide and vinylidene chloride and copolymers of vinyl halides with vinyl acetate, propionate and butyrate, styrene, methylmethacrylate and dialkyl maleate and fumarate.
