Abstract

1,230,844. Dewaxing. ESSO RESEARCH & ENG. CO. 9 Sept., 1968 [8 Sept., 1967], No. 42827/68. Heading C5E. A process for dewaxing a petroleum oil stock comprises introducing said oil stock into a cooling zone divided into at least six agitated stages, introducing a prechilled selective dewaxing solvent into each of the agitated stages, maintaining the degree of agitation in each stage between 200 and 100,000 modified Reynolds number so as to effect substantially instantaneous mixing and cooling of said solvent and said oil stock in each of the agitated stages to precipitate wax from said oil stock, separating the precipitated wax from the oil-solvent solution, and recovering an oil having a reduced wax content from said solution. Solvents mentioned include methyl ethyl ketone, methyl isobutyl ketone, ethane, propane, butane and mixtures thereof, dichloroethane and dichloromethane, and mixtures of the ketones with benzene or toluene.
