Abstract

1,230,393. Photographic supersensitized silver halide emulsions. ILFORD Ltd. Sept. 16, 1969 [July 3, 1968], No. 31706/68. Heading G2C. A photographic silver halide emulsion is supersensitized with a dye of the formula: - where R 1 is alkyl of 1-4C or sulphoalkyl; R 2 is alkyl of 1-4C, aryl, aralkyl or alkoxy; R 7 is -OR 3 or -NR 9 R 10 where R 3 , R 9 and R 10 and each H or alkyl of 1-4C; R 8 is -SO 3 H or -COOH; Y is S or Se; Z is straight or branched alkylene of 1-6C and X is an anion, or the corresponding zwitter ion formed by eliminating HX, together with a dye of the formula: - where R 4 is alkyl of 1-4C; R 5 is halogen, methyl, amino or cyano; Z is as above and M is a cation or a hydrogen ion. A styryl base may also be present of the formula: - where A completes a thiazole ring and R 11 and R 12 are each alkyl of 1-4C. The dyes sensitize to green.
