[Also in Division G1] A marking device for a multi-colour pen recorder comprises a plurality (n) of pens 1 having respective ink reservoirs, the pens being mounted on a support for pivoting in respective planes 2a to 2n, and pivoting and translating means for (i) pivoting relative to the support any one of the pens 1 to mark the record surface at the same point 9 common to all the planes 2a to 2n, (ii) translating the support, and with it, the pens, to move the point 9 relative to the record surface 6. The planes 2a to 2n intersect in a line 3 perpendicular to the generatrix 4 of a roller 5 guiding a paper record strip 6. The pen support is translated parallel to the line 4 and the pens are pivoted about axes 8 by mechanical linkages, the axes 8 being tangential to a circle 7 with its centre at the point 9 where the lines 3, 4 intersect. Each pen is connected to its reservoir by a channel, through which ink flows only when the pen is pivoted to mark the record strip and not when retracted, or by a capillary tube. The device may be used in a multi-channel recorder to record from several measuring devices intermittently and successively or continuously in succession; or the device may record a single graph alternating the colours to distinguish different periods.
