Abstract
1,230,036. Electro-mechanical delay lines. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. 6 Nov., 1969 [9 Nov., 1968], No. 54438/69. Heading H3U. A glass delay line body 1 has sides 5, 6 at 135 degrees to the sides 2, 3, carrying input and output piezo-electric transducers 7, 8. Each transducer is polarized in a direction which is parallel to the respective side 5 or 6 and which is also parallel to the upper and lower boundary surfaces 9, 10. Vibrations from the transducer 7 are reflected in succession by the sides 2, 3, 4, 2, 3 before reaching the transducer 8. The thickness d of the body 1 is made smaller than five times the wavelength of the vibrations (preferably, less than twice the wavelength) whereby the surfaces 9, 10 act as reflectors. To prevent reflection of undesired stray vibrations and thus compel the wanted vibrations to follow the path shown in Fig. 1, discrete areas of the surfaces 9, 10 indicated by hatching, are provided with damping material 11 in the form of silicone rubber.
