Abstract

1,230,027. Polymer blend filaments. ALLIED CHEMICAL CORP. 16 June, 1969 [15 Aug., 1968], No. 30462/69. Heading B5B. [Also in Divisions C3 and D1] Filaments are made from a polymer blend comprising (A) polyester, (B) polyamide, and (C) an organic P compound. The filament may be made by melt-spinning a blend having (A) disposed as discrete microfibres in (B). The (A) microfibres have diameter > 1 Ám and average length #5 x diameter, e.g. 250 x diameter. There may be 100 microfibres traversing each filament cross-section. In the filaments the microfibres are predominantly parallel to the filament axis. The filaments have superior whiteness. In the examples, (A) is polyethyleneterephthalate, (B) is polycaproamide, and (C) is triphenyl phosphite, tris-(4-nonyl)-phenyl phosphite, disodium phenyl phosphinate, or triphenyl phosphate. There may be 0À1-5À0 wt. per cent (C) based on (A) + (B). (A) may be dispersed in a matrix of (B). Based on wt. of (A) + (B), there may be 50-10% wt. (A) dispersed in 50-90% wt. (B). (C) may be dry blended with (A) and (B) in granular form; or (C) may be incorporated into a melt of (A) and (B); or (C) may be incorporated in (A) and/or (B) during polymerization thereof.
