Abstract

[Also in Division F4] In a device for the treatment of gas and/or liquid permeable materials by passage over at least one rotatable sieve drum subjected to a suction draft or a liquid pressure, gradient means are provided both to vary the draft or liquid flow pressure and to measure the pressure difference existing between the outside and the inside of the sieve drum. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2 a heat insulated housing 1 is subdivided by a partition 2 to form a treatment chamber 3 containing four driven sieve drums over which the material 24 passes in a sinusoidal path and a fan chamber 5 housing heaters 7 and fans or propellers 6 coaxial with each drum 4. Above and underneath the sieve drums 4 perforated sheets 8 are arranged for equalising the gas or liquid flow over the drums. A drive 9 for each fan is provided with an infinitely variable gear 10 which can be varied manually by the hand wheel 11 or automatically by a servometer. Alternatively a commutator motor may be used to drive the fan 6. The pressure difference on opposite sides of the material 24 is measured by a U-tube manometer 17 (not indicated) or a rotary manometer connected between a pipe 16 and a radial extension 14 of a pipe 15 formed in the stationery axle of the drum 4 which axle supports in the sector opposite the material 24 and pipe 16 a stationary semicircular baffle 13. The drum drive is effected via a gear 20 secured to the hollow shaft 19 of the drum. At the intake of the device there is a tensioning roller assembly and in order to permit a tensionless feeding of the material on to the sieve drums 4 a pair of driven rollers 26 are located adjacent the first drum. At the discharge end of the device a cooling drum 27 is provided.
