1,229,507. Indicating tension in threaded fasteners. F. T. HOLMAN. 17 June, 1969 [18 June, 1968], No. 30568/69. Heading F2H. In a nut or bolt 9 a capsule 5, of plastics material containing a coloured ink 8, is placed in an annular groove 2 in a mating face of the nut or bolt 6 and the arrangement is such that the capsule 2 bursts when tightened against a mating face to a desired degree to release the coloured ink. Radial grooves 13 on the mating face facilitate passage of the ink. The indicator fluid can serve as an indicator and also a sealant.
