Bell cases and clappers; bell-operating mechanism, electric.-In electric bells of the kind enclosed in a water-tight casing and used for mine signalling, the rocking spindle 11, carrying the armature 7, flat restoring spring 21, and hammer 19, is mounted on the base of the casing and passes at its upper end through a detachable bracket 12 secured in a water-tight manner in the cover 3 of the casing. The flat spring 21 curves round the interior of the casing and contacts therewith at its free end portion. The undersurface of the boss 16 is formed with an annular groove in which a packing-ring 22 is placed. The electro-magnet is preferably formed with a single core and with side pole faces so that the armature can be placed parallel with the core. The contact spring carried by the armature is insulated therefrom and connected to the electro-magnet coil by a direct flexible connexion.
