Abstract
1,229,087. Pneumatic separating. AMF Inc. 19 Nov., 1969 [29 Nov., 1968], No. 56552/69. Heading B2H. A cut tobacco stemmer comprises pneumatic means for separating cut tobacco particles from stems having a chamber 13 with a suction pipe 16, 18 for receiving the cut tobacco particles, a canopy 136 serving to catch rising particles and guide them to the inlet of the suction pipe, and ports 151 in the bottom of the chamber through which air enters, and stems fall, the ports being formed by a plurality of plates arranged in spaced overlapping relationship. The canopy may consist of a suction hood 126 provided with a screen 136 impermeable to tobacco particles. The screen may be provided with mechanical or pneumatic cleaning means, and may consist of a revolving perforated drum. A second similar chamber 14 may be provided.
