1,229,041. Alkali metal polymercaptides. DUNLOP CO. (D. A. MacKillop). 28 Feb., 1969 [2 March, 1968], No. 10247/68. Heading C2C. [Also in Division C3] Mercaptides of metals of Group IA which have a total functionality of thiol and mercaptide groups of at least 2 are prepared by reacting the metal or hydroxy, alkoxy, aryl or alkyl compound of the metal with an organic compound containing at least 2 thiol groups. In Example 1, propane-1,3-dithiol in ethanol is added to an ethanol solution of NaOH and disodium propane-1,3-dimeacaptide is precipitated. Other mono- and di-sodium derivatives of propane- 1,2- and propane-1,3-dithiols are similarly prepared.
