Abstract
1,229,024. Shaft seals. GEORGE ANGUS & CO. Ltd. 1 July, 1968, No. 31364/68. Addition to 1,129,496. Heading F2B. In a face seal comprising a sealing ring 1 mounted in an elastomeric carrier ring 2 and urged axially in use into facial sealing contact with an opposed surface by a helical spring 6, the ring 2 has a cuff 3 which is urged radially outwardly by an end convolution 5 of the spring 6. The end of the spring remote from the ring 1 is formed as a lug 7. As applied to an impeller pump, Fig. 2, the seal is mounted in a bore 12 in the impeller 9 with the cuff 3 expanded by the spring convolution 5 into tight engagement with the bore, the lug 7 engaging a hole 14 in the impeller and the ring 1 being pressed by the spring 6 into sealing contact with a bush 11.
