Abstract

1332094 Rotary shaft seals CATERPILLAR TRACTOR CO 22 March 1972 13388/72 Heading F2B Sealing means 17 for a water pump rotary shaft 11 comprises a cylindrical case 18 mounted on a bore 14 in the pump housing 16, a sealing member 24 having an end sealing face 26 urged into sealing contact with a seal face 13 of a hub 12 on the shaft by a compression spring 27 compressed between the member 24 and an end base wall 20 of the case 18 having a spring locating lip 21, and a secondary seal 17 moulded to the case 18 and having a sealing lip 33 in slidable sealing engagement with the outer peripheral surface 35 of the member 24; the axially outward movement of the member 24 being limited by a skirt 37 engageable with the lip 33 which latter may be loaded by a garter spring 34.
