Abstract

1,228,972. Developing latent electrostatic images. VARIAN ASSOCIATES. Aug.2, 1968 [Aug. 21, 1967], No.37117/68. Heading G2H. An apparatus for developing latent electrostatic images has an inking chamber 15 provided with a slot 16, the marginal edges of which conform in curvature to a drive roller 9 disposed adjacent the slot to facilitate the formation of a fluid seal between a record web 8 carrying the image to be developed and the slot 16. The latent images is formed by electrodes 7 energized by an analogue to digital converter 5 fed by a pre-amplifier 4. The chamber 15 is fed with ink from a reservoir 17 by a vacuum pump 19 which causes ink to be drawn into the chamber 15 to a predetermined level. A float valve, (not shown), maintains this level. A spring 23 urges the roller 9 against the edges of the web 8 in contact with the slot edges of the slot 16.
