[Also in Division A5] A mixture of novel compounds of Formulae I and II wherein R 1 is a C 8-18 alkyl radical, R 2 and R 3 are C 1-4 alkyl radicals, x is 1 to 6 and n is 1 to 6, are prepared by reaction of a compound of formula B i (R a )N-(OH 2 ) n -NH 2 and a compound of formula HOOCCH = CH(CH 2 ) x-1 -COOH to give a compound of formula which is reacted with a C 8-18 alkyl halide or sulphate. N - dimethylaminopropyl aspartic acid is prepared by reaction of maleic acid and dimethylaminopropylamine.
